Buy a Book & Give Back To UVU Athletics
It’s just that easy.
In an exclusive offer, UVU has teamed up with Neilwarnerbooks.com to raise money for the school’s scholarship fund.
When you buy a copy of Off Court or Under the Green Banners, half of every purchase will be donated directly to the Utah Valley University Athletic Scholarship fund.
Making the jump to Division I is difficult. This year Utah Valley University’s projected scholarship costs are $730,000. Of that amount, the school has raised just $250,000 so far.
The need has never been greater and when you buy a book you are making a direct impact on the success of the athletic programs by putting your money where it is needed the most.
Off Court is a collection of the most incredible and inspirational stories from the biggest stars of the NBA. The book took seven years of research to collect just the right stories.
What is Off Court about?
It is about stories like that of Collett Richins.
Collett was a 16-year-old girl involved in a serious car accident that left her in a coma. She was put on life support and given little chance for survival. While her parents faced the agonizing decision of whether to keep her on life support or pull the plug on her life, a family friend, who knew Collett’s favorite Jazz player was Bryon Russell, contacted the Jazz and within a few days Russell visited Collett at the hospital. He sat by her bed, held her hand and talked to her. While Collett’s hero sat at her bedside, she opened her eyes and began her recovery.
Off Court contains 13 different stories. From Karl Malone to Tracy McGrady, from Gary Payton to David Robinson, each story gives basketball fans an all-access pass to a side of the NBA few people ever get to see.
Hall of Fame player Bill Walton called Off Court, “Inspirational, remarkable, and insightful. Off Court uncovers the NBA’s most touching stories. From the unbelievable to the tragic, you can’t help but be touched.”
Under the Green Banners tells the story of the most successful basketball program in Utah. No other team has won so often, and no other school has a richer tradition than Provo High School basketball.
From the days when its rivalry with Orem attracted more fans than a BYU/Utah game in the 70’s, to the school’s record 16th state championship, Provo High School basketball has become the model program in Utah and one of the most respected high school basketball programs in the country.
What is it like in the locker room before and after the game? What is said during a timeout at the end of a game. What is the mood of the team on the bus and how do the players unwind away from basketball?
It’s all here, under the green and white championship banners.
“An insightful look at high school basketball, but more importantly, a compelling look into life itself,” said Rob Cuff, Utah High School Activities Association.
Lone Peak High School coach Quincy Lewis said, “For years Neil Warner has been as good of a prep writer as there has ever been. His book Under the Green Banners did not disappoint. It was thorough and fun.”
Buy Off Court and Under the Green Banners for yourself, or give them as a gift and you will be actually be giving twice.
